Charles A. Nau

WWII Vet NAU Charles Antrup, 95, of Batavia went home peacefully to be with the Lord on January 9, 2018. Charles was the loving husband for 68 years of Ann (Schoenfield) Nau, the devoted father of Jed (Patsi) Nau of Dallas, TX, Jon (Kay) Nau of Batavia, and Lori (Leon) Andrus of Bedford, TX. Grandfather of Charlie (Rosebud) Nau, Andrew Nau, Leah (B.J.) Boerger, Lindsay Rosenhoffer, Emily (Michael) Tomasino, Elizabeth (James) Hoult and Ellie (Cliff) Miller. Great-grandfather of Lily, Morgan, Natalie, Caroline, Will, Aubrey, Jack and Holden. A longtime member of All Saints Lutheran Church, Mt. Carmel. Charles was a kind and gentle man who dearly loved his family, his faith, and his trumpet. Born June 1, 1922, Charles grew up in the College Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati, graduated from Hughes High School in 1940 and attended The Ohio State University until World War II. He then served in the Army Air Corps from November 1942 until December 1945 as an airborne radar flight officer. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS degree in music education in 1949 and received a Master's degree in Education in 1956. Charles served as a music teacher and principal in Batavia schools from 1949 to 1958 and as a principal in Madeira City Schools from 1958 to 1968. He then returned to Batavia as superintendent of schools from 1968 to 1974. Charles was the Associate Superintendent of Clermont County Schools until his retirement in 1987. During this time, he co-founded the Land of Grant high school honor band in 1974 and was the secretary of the Clermont County Athletic League. He later was elected to the Clermont County Board of Education and also served as a member of the county MRDD board. He played his beloved trumpet as a member of the Syrian Shrine concert band for over 50 years and continued to play for years with the Gentleman of Swing Big Band until the time of his death. Charles was a devoted volunteer at the Tri-State Warbird Museum. Visitation is Friday, January 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Moore Family Funeral Home in Batavia. The funeral service is at All Saints Lutheran Church, 445 Craig Road in Mt. Carmel on Saturday, January 13, at 11:00 A.M. Burial to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. Public reception at All Saints Church at 2:30, Saturday.
