Melvin E. Cass, 77 years old, of Cincinnati, OH passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Hospice care at the Madeira Health Care Center in Madeira, OH. Born July 24, 1939 in Terre Haute, IN, Mel was the son of the late Harry M. and Eileen E. {Withem} Cass. He attended Withrow High School in Cincinnati, OH and then joined the U.S. Marine Corp where he proudly served his country for three years. Mel had various occupations. He was a fireman and then became a police officer for the City of Pasadena, CA, and later was in the home improvement business for many years. Mel enjoyed jazz music, cooking, playing cards, watching horse races and entertaining friends and family with his quick wit and funny stories, which kept everyone laughing. Mel's first marriage to the late Patricia Emmett Hans produced two wonderful children, a son, Jon Eric Cass Hans and a daughter, Caryn Lee Cass Burris. His second marriage was to Emilie Donham. Mel's third marriage to Nadean Whitt Colwell provided a lasting friendship, even after their marriage ended. Nadean continued to offer her care and support to Mel to the end of his life, and his family is eternally grateful for all that she did. Mel is survived by his son John {Lisa} Hans and their sons Paul and Ian Hans of Breckenridge, CO, his daughter, Caryn {Kurt} Burris and their children Cheyne, Shelby and Wyatt Burris of Fountain Valley, CA, stepdaughter Ceclia Isner and her daughters Cierra and Isabella Isner of Batavia, OH, stepson Jack {Jenny} Whitt of Goshen, OH and their children Christopher Whitt of Milford, OH, Tony Whitt of Blanchester, OH, Cecilia Lynn Whitt Jordan of Amelia, OH, and Alec Whitt of Goshen, OH, and seven step-great-grandchildren, a sister Deborah {Rev. Brad} Lewis of Monroe, MI and their daughters, Mel's two nieces, Lori {David} Nieman of New Boston, MI, and Amy {Matthew} Welch and their sons Parker and Brady Welch of Monroe, MI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother Martha Cass and stepson-in-law Karl Isner. In keeping with Mel's wishes cremation has been held. A graveside Memorial Service will take place Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11 AM at Greenmound Cemetery, New Richmond, OH with Mel's brother-in-law Rev. Brad Lewis officiating.
