Several years ago David and I were in Mt. Carmel having breakfast and when we went to leave a young woman carrying a little girl got our attention and was nervous and very upset saying my car's on fire. We ran over to her car and her muffler had caught the floor carpet on fire and flames were getting bigger as we spoke. I asked her if she had insurance, which she did not. She was crying saying please help put it out, which we tried but no luck. To my surprise Dave hopped in the car and pointed at a car wash across the street I ran behind him watching him drive with his head hanging out the window. We put the fire out and removed the carpet so it wouldn't start up again. Dave gave his little chuckle and said that was a close one. Dave gave her his phone number and told her to bring the car to him and he would repair the hole in the floor. This is one example of David's love and compassion for people. Dave was my brother in law, and close friend. I will miss that funny little chuckle he would make, which he did several times the night before he passed. Michael W. Durham

Went to the National with Dave many years ago. One year he decided to sell most of his parts collection and purchased a very large sombrero hat and called himself "Big Hat Dave". Have lots of good memories with Dave. RIP my Friend. Lonnie Diers
