UNION TOWNSHIP - Garnett Mae Richard (nee Chapman), age 68, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on the morning of September 18, 2025. Garnett was born on October 19, 1956, in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Thomas and Shirley (nee Brammer) Chapman.
Garnett is survived by her three loving children: Shanna (George) Davidson, Lauren Richard, and Joey Richard; two cherished grandsons: George Davidson and Noah Davidson; her siblings: Thomas (Bev) Chapman, Edna (Mel) Sweet, Glen (Patty) Chapman, and Robin "Tobbs" (the late Richard) Johnson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Garnett was married to Joseph Richard IV in 1982. They spent 17 years together raising their three children. After separating, they remained close friends and gave their children the best possible gift of a united family long into their adulthood. Garnett was a woman of many titles: "Sissy" to close friends and family, "Aunt Gar Gar" to nieces and nephews, and "Miss Garnett" to the many young ladies she led through Girl Scouting. Her most favorite titles were always "Mama" to her children and "Maw Maw" to her grandsons. There was never a missed opportunity to remind each of them that her whole world revolved around them.
She celebrated every birthday, every accomplishment, and every milestone with enthusiasm and the most outpouring of love imaginable. Garnett officially retired in 2015 after 39 years of dedicated service. The majority of her career was spent at Continental Plastic Containers, affectionately nick-named "The Can," where she began working at only 19. Over the years she filled many roles and was very proud when she earned her license to be a fork lift truck operator.
Garnett was an emphatic lover of the hometown team, the Cincinnati Bengals. From Tim Krumrie to Boomer Esiason to Joe Burrow, she bled orange and black. Garnett is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Shirley, her brother-in-law Richard Johnson, her father-in-law Joseph Richard III, and her mother-in-law Betty Richard. A Celebration of Life will be held on Garnett's first Heavenly Birthday on October 19, 2025, at 10AM at Blushstone Events - 8128 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45255.
