Jay Mathue Martz (71), of Batavia, OH passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 20, 2022. A Wisconsin native, Jay was born on October 6, 1950 to John and Manette Martz. His father John came to the United States as a child and Jay was very proud to be the son of an immigrant. Jay met his life-long love Betty at Preble High School in Green Bay, WI. They were married at 19 and moved to Cincinnati, OH when Jay joined the US Army National Guard (1193rd division). They built a wonderful life together with their three daughters: Jenny Martz, Becky Holmes (Jerry), and Kate Martz (Jeff Harris). Jay and Betty celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in May. While he loved his wife and daughters with all his heart, his two grandsons, Nathan and Carter, were his whole world. He and Betty traveled near and far to watch Nathan and Carter play football, basketball, and baseball. Jay was a hard worker and never retired. He loved his profession and was well-respected by his colleagues. Jay was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, he was a history buff, he enjoyed time on lakes, golfing, he tolerated bowling, and he was a home improvement project warrior.
Jay was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Jeff Ehr, his mother and father-in-law, Norbert and Rita Burkart, his brother-in-law, Andrew Burkart and his best friend Denny Rammel.
