Jay Mathue Martz

Jay Mathue Martz (71), of Batavia, OH passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 20, 2022. A Wisconsin native, Jay was born on October 6, 1950 to John and Manette Martz. His father John came to the United States as a child and Jay was very proud to be the son of an immigrant. Jay met his life-long love Betty at Preble High School in Green Bay, WI. They were married at 19 and moved to Cincinnati, OH when Jay joined the US Army National Guard (1193rd division). They built a wonderful life together with their three daughters: Jenny Martz, Becky Holmes (Jerry), and Kate Martz (Jeff Harris). Jay and Betty celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in May. While he loved his wife and daughters with all his heart, his two grandsons, Nathan and Carter, were his whole world. He and Betty traveled near and far to watch Nathan and Carter play football, basketball, and baseball. Jay was a hard worker and never retired. He loved his profession and was well-respected by his colleagues. Jay was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, he was a history buff, he enjoyed time on lakes, golfing, he tolerated bowling, and he was a home improvement project warrior.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Jeff Ehr, his mother and father-in-law, Norbert and Rita Burkart, his brother-in-law, Andrew Burkart and his best friend Denny Rammel.

Friends and family may visit on Monday, July 25, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am with a memorial service at noon at Moore Family Funeral Home, 225 Spring Street, Batavia, Ohio. Burial will follow at Batavia Union Cemetery. Please feel free to spend additional time with the family at the Martz home following services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

So sorry to hear of Jay’s passing. I remember the first day I met him. Of course, he had a Packers jacket on. I was just a kid, so a lot of jokes went over my head that day, but as I grew older, I realized Jay was one of the funniest and most fun-loving people I’d ever meet. My condolences to Betty, the girls, extended family and friends.

As many.... I was very saddened with the news of Jay's passing, As much as a shock to hear the news, all of the old memories of our years together flashed by me. The great Times we all spent together with the Barnhorsts and many others. Our Families "back in the day" were inseparable and I'll always cherish those memories. Prayers and much Love to you ALL.

Betty, Jenny, Becky and Kate, we are so sorry to hear of Jay's passing. He was a dear man whose sense of humor kept us smiling. We imagine that Jay left this world with more accrued points than any man ever. He loved his wife deeply. What a loss for those who knew him but what a gain for heaven.

So many beautiful memories of our high school days, when Jay & Betty met. We enjoyed our classes together, the school projects and the parties we all shared. Your love for was another was evident even then...your loss is enormous. Please know you are remembered and still loved.

Sad to hear of Jay's passing. I knew and worked as a contractor with Jay through several years when he worked at the David Joseph Co. As a friend, we enjoyed several rounds of golf, boat rides and an occasional adult beverage. Jay will be missed

Jay was one Awesome guy. As a client and then a friend you could not find a better man. He once told me, Take care of the details and the big jobs will fall into place. Jay was right on !!!
His wisdom served me well. Thanks Jay. RIP.
