Dr. Joseph G Halsey

Dr Joseph G Halsey of Breathitt County, KY went to be home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 19, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years Shelia C Halsey of New Richmond, OH, his sister Brenda Miller (Barry) his children Tamarah Jo Stagg (Jon), Todd Halsey (Monica) and Joe Halsey (Kristi). His life was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews Tiffany and Josh as well numerous friends and family.

Dr Halsey served his country faithfully in the US Army from 1960 through 1963 after graduating from Lee's junior college. Dr Halsey completed his undergraduate work at Morehead State University and then pursued his advanced degree in education first earning a masters degree from Xavier University and then a doctorate from the University of Cincinnati. He faithfully taught political science and government at Cedarville College (now Cedarville University) from 1970 until 2000. While serving as a university professor Dr Halsey also spent much time acting as pulpit supply and as an interim pastor at multiple churches throughout Ohio and West Virginia. His last full time position was senior pastor of Lindale Baptist Church in Amelia OH from 2000 to 2002.

Transformed by the power of the Gospel in his early twenties, Dr Halsey consistently modeled faith, service, discipline and integrity. His love for the Lord and passion for the Word of God were consistent influences on his life and family. He was a faithful husband, father and friend and his legacy will forever impact many lives.

Visitation will take place Monday, April 25, 2022 from 10am to 11am at The First Baptist Church of Glen-Este, 1034 Old State Route 74, Batavia, OH 45103. Funeral Service will begin at 11am.

Interment will be at North Cemetery, just north of Cedarville University. We will be individually traveling to the cemetery, and meet at 3pm for final disposition and goodbyes.

Condolences to all my family that are sad and suffering your loss. It's hard, at least you know Joe is in a better place.
My love to all of you- especially to my aunt Shelia who is separated from her soulmate temporarily.
I love you all!

May the Lord bless and keep Dr. Halsey. As a former student, I can't begin to describe the impact he made on my life. I am a better person because of him.

There are not enough words to convey the deep gratitude I have for Dr. Halsey. Neither are there enough words to convey the sadness in my heart at his departure as well as the joy in my heart that he is now with our Lord Jesus! Dr. Halsey changed my life in so many wonderful ways through his example and counsel. He was my intellectual and spiritual mentor and provided wonderful counsel to me as a newly married college student. He had a great and positive influence on my academic career and first professional job, influence that I carry with me to this day. His wonderful influence also had a great impact on my family. I am a better man, a better husband, a better father, and a better leader because of Dr. Halsey. You ran the race well, Dr. Halsey. I look forward to seeing you again when I, too, arrive to be with our Lord Jesus! Thank you, sir, for your love and example.

Linda and I met Joe and Sheila at Faith Baptist Church and quickly became friends. Joe introduced me to bailing hay. Hardest I ever worked in my life. Another good memory was when Joe wanted to start a church in Wilmington Ohio. We went door to door looking for interest. Of all the homes we visited we didn't find one family that wasn't already in church.
Such a precious family. Love and prayers to you all.

Dr Halsey, thank you for all the things you taught me at Cedarville when I took your Political Science course. Thank you most of all for your focus on discipline, integrity, and excellence. I have thought of you many times over the years and never forgot the values you instilled in me. Thank you also for the privilege of teaching your son, Joe. I’m not sure I was a very good teacher then but I know I was a better one because of the things you taught me. You have blessed my life!
