Rodney D. Powers

AFTON - Rodney D. Powers, age 91, passed from this life in the early hours of September 25, 2026, at his home. He was born on July 21, 1935, the eldest of three children to the late Clay and Pauline (nee Gose) Powers. Rodney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Rodney grew up in Menifee County, Kentucky, born in Denniston. He moved to Ohio in the early 1950's with his parents and siblings. He was married to the late Loma (nee Ingram) Powers in 1954, and they were parents of five children. They resided in Germantown, Middletown, and Franklin until relocating to the Williamsburg, Ohio area in 1964. He married Rebecca (nee Huddleston) in 1998.

After moving from Kentucky to Ohio, Rodney was employed at a chrome plating company, in sales for home furnace inspections and as an assembly man for Aeronica Aircraft Company. He was lastly employed over 40 years in delivery sales for White's Bakery and Meadow Gold Milk, later owning his own milk routes and selling products from Meadow Gold and Trauth Dairies until retiring in 2001.

Shortly after retirement Rodney suffered a stroke while in his boat on East Fork Lake. He was able to get to the lakeshore, load the boat, unload the boat at home, and drive himself to the local hospital - none of which he remembered. The stroke left him with memory and recall issues for his last 24 years.

Rodney was an avid outdoorsman his entire life, especially enjoying hunting and fishing and spent numerous drives with his wife Becky observing birds and other wildlife. He fished competitively for bass and crappie with friends and with his son Larry, winning their share of tournaments on the local East Fork Lake and was known by many friends on the lake as "The Milkman." He also enjoyed keeping his lawn manicured and could be seen as late as a few months ago on his zero-turn riding mower.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bonnie (nee Powers) Willis and brother Randall Powers. He is survived by his wife Rebecca "Becky;" sons John (Susan) Powers, Larry (Diane) Powers, Richard "Rick" (Ruth) Powers; daughters Reba (the late Laura) Powers and Ramona (Candace) Powers; stepson Chris (Salie) Ellis; and numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 10AM until 12PM funeral service at Moore Family Funeral Homes - 225 Spring Street, Batavia, Ohio 45103. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Township Cemetery.
